Dear Parents and Guardians of Lane School Students,

I am pleased to welcome both new and returning students to Lane School for the upcoming school year. Our dedicated staff and I are excited to support your child’s growth and help them develop the skills they need to be successful at Lane School and beyond.

The first day of school for our K–8 program will be Wednesday, September 3, with a half-day schedule from 8:05 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Program Updates and Transitions

At Lane School, we recognize that change can be challenging, and we work closely with students to develop positive and adaptive strategies to support their transitions. This year, we are welcoming several new students to our program and we foresee this causing some shifts in classroom assignments and schedules. We encourage you to review these changes with your child prior to the start of school to help ease the transition.

First, our program will operate one fewer classroom, from five classrooms to four. Because of the lower enrollment, our students may be reassigned to new homerooms. 

Second, students who are new to our program, or who have not yet attended on a full-day schedule, may begin the year with a half-day schedule to support their onboarding process. 

Finally, our team may reach out to parents and guardians to schedule a meeting to discuss how we can best support your child’s needs this year. 

We feel that these shifts in practice will help us ensure a safe, supportive, and structured environment for all students returning to the Westmoreland campus.

Office Contacts and Availability

LaRae Akin, our Lane School Program Assistant, will continue to be your primary contact for general school questions and communicating updates regarding your child’s enrollment. If you haven’t met LaRae yet, she is highly efficient in supporting the needs of our students and families. Please allow 24-48 hours for LaRae to return your communication once she returns from the summer break.

The Westmoreland office will reopen for phone calls on August 18, 2025. If you contact us before then, please leave a voicemail. As the building Principal, I will be checking messages periodically throughout the summer and will respond to communication requests as soon as possible. The office will also be open for walk-in needs (such as dropping off medication) on August 25 and 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Student Forms and Required Information

Please complete and return the enclosed forms using the prepaid envelope by August 15, 2025.
